Living a life of service...

“Helping, fixing, and serving represent three different ways of seeing life. When you help, you see life as weak. When you fix, you see life as broken. When you serve, you see life as whole. Fixing and helping may be the work of the ego, and service the work of the soul.” –Rachel Naomi Remen

Una Vida desires for all of it’s participants to live a life of service. This is one of the main objectives of each out our trips/ internships: to become more aware of how to serve and love those around us. Una Vida’s mission is to empower impoverished families of rural Dominican Republic and Haiti, while strengthening and reaffirming our own shared humanity, our need for empathy, and our devotion to serving others. It is important for us to see life as whole, and that when we serve, we connect with others on a deep, personal level. It is important that we recognize that we are a part of a community, locally and globally. We were made to interact rightly with those around us. We must look outward, and acknowledge the needs of those around us, and do our part to help meet those needs. There are a hundreds opportunities each and everyday to serve others; may we be mindful, aware and ready to take action!

What are lessons of service and love that you’ve learned on an Una Vida trip or recently in your current context?
